Answer the following questions

  1. Define intranet and extranet.
    Intranet is a small private network that is established within an organization that is used to share information and resources among the employees securely is called intranet.
    An extranet refers to the private network similar to intranet but also shares internal information and resources securely with authorized people outside the organization without giving access to company’s entire network.
  2. What is internet? List any two advantages and disadvantages of internet.
    The largest computer network that connects millions of computers from all over the world is called internet. It is also called network of networks.
  3. What are the services of internet? List them.
    Following are the services of internet:
    i. www
    ii. E-mail
    iii. IRC
    iv. Remote Login
    v. E-commerce
    vi. Video Conferencing
    vii. News groups
    viii. E-Fax
  4. What is email? Define e-fax.
    E-mail stands for Electronic mail. It is the process of sending and receiving the electronic messages over the internet.
    E-fax stands for Electronic Facsimile. It is a service of an internet that allows user to send and receive faxes (documents or graphics) directly from a computer to another computer.
  5. What are the advantages of email over a traditional postal system? Write any four points.
    Following are the advantages of email over a traditional postal system.
    i. It is faster and cheaper means of communication as compared to traditional postal system.
    ii. It can be accessed from any place and any time.
    iii. The person receiving the mail need not to be physically present.
    iv. The same email can be sent to more than one person.
  6. Define the terms www, e-commerce and telnet.
    WWW:
    WWW stands for World Wide Web. It is the popular service of internet that provides the information related to any topic or subject.
    E-Commerce:
    The process of buying and selling goods and services through internet is called E-commerce.
    Telnet:
    Telnet stands for Terminal Emulation. It is a facility of an internet that allows you to access remote host computer from another location.
  7. What is webpage? Define website.
    A page of a website that contains information on a certain topic or subject is called webpage.
    Website is a collection of webpages.
  8. What do you mean by homepage?
    The first page of website is called homepage. It is also called index page.
  9. What is URL?
    URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It is the address of a website. It is also called internet address.
  10. What is ISP? List any two popular ISPs in Nepal.
    ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. It is an organization or company that provides internet facilities to its customers.
    Two popular ISPs of Nepal are world link and Vianet.
  11. What is web browser? Give examples.
    Web browser is an application software that runs on the client computer and displays the content of webpages. For example: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Brave etc.
  12. What is search engine? Give examples.
    The special website that allows you to search information on the basis of keywords is called search engine. For example: www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, www.bing.com etc.
